Who hasn't swum in a swimming pool even once this summer? I'm sure you all did! Did you know that chlorine from the swimming pool (which doesn’t wash out with a simple shampoo) can be very destructive to your hair and scalp?
Use this simple DIY Chlorine Removal Recipe found below.
Oh, and by the way, did you know that using essential oils on your hair and scalp has many benefits such as these?
• Encourages hair growth and may help minimize hair loss
• Reduces dry scalp or dandruff
• Discourages lice
• Encourages circulation to the scalp, which leads to healthier, shiny hair
• Removes chlorine and other chemicals that have built up on your hair
• Helps to remove excess sebum that has hardened into plaque and built up on the scalp (which can result in hair loss)
• Makes your hair smell great!

Chlorine Removal Recipe
2 T. coconut oil, warmed if solid
5 drops rosemary oil
5 drops lavender oil
5 drops geranium oil
2 drops sandalwood oil
Shampoo hair and towel dry. Mix all ingredients together and massage into hair and scalp. Cover head with shower cap and leave in for 30-45 minutes (sitting under the heat from a hair dryer hood is ideal).
Rinse with cool water and style as usual. If you have oily hair, you may want to use apple cider vinegar instead of coconut oil (this will also help remove buildup).
Note:
Please be careful where you get your oils from though. Keep in mind that many essential oils on the market (even those sold in health food stores) have potentially toxic extenders. (Labeling laws allow manufacturers to use up to 50% chemical extenders and still say they are 100% pure).
We recommend this brand.
